Winners & Losers of China’s Brutal EV Market #nio #byd #electriccar

China's electric vehicle industry faces unprecedented challenges both domestically and internationally. While companies like Tesla, BYD, and Li Auto profit, over 400 others have collapsed in fierce competition. Domestic EV makers engage in brutal price wars while battling steep tariffs and subsidies abroad. In May 2024, the U.S. raised tariffs on Chinese EVs to 100%, aiming to protect its marke...

      Do you think a complete ban on new ICEs would make sense, though?

    • @anonymous3738
      @anonymous3738 День тому

      @@DWREV It would make sense to me since the point is to eliminate all emissions from new vehicles, but I still think it’s too extreme because not everybody wants electric vehicles and instead prefer gas and diesel vehicles. Because of this, in my opinion, emissions restrictions should only be applied to publicly-owned vehicles and privately-owned vehicles should have a recommendation but no restrictions.

    • @DWREV
      @DWREV День тому

      @@anonymous3738 Also, affordability does become a question. Until EVs (that can transport an entire family) become as cheap as a comparable ICE, it will be pretty hard to implement such a ban. No?

    • @anonymous3738
      @anonymous3738 День тому

      @@DWREV That’s another reason EVs are piling up at dealer lots. In America, Biden is being criticized for setting tighter emissions regulations and Trump is planning to ease them if he gets re-elected. Unfortunately, not everyone can agree with EVs becoming the new normal and nobody, not even any government can do anything to change that. Ford, for example, is committed to offering a V8 engine in the Mustang forever and will never stop fighting with the government to do so. After all, it wouldn’t be a true American muscle car without a V8.

Honda CRX Vetch.. OMG that could shift.. Wife called, "as much fun as you could have with your clothes on". Vi the Golf GTI. Vi was a Mk2 8 valve, all the grunt around 3000 rpm and we seriously always just managed (good breaks!) to avoid a speeding ticket. Rolf the Golf Cabriolet married and honeymooned in the Black Forest! Daughters loved it and were forever being told off for standing up and singing in the back. Rolo the Polo... 1600 and it could shift.. Wife loved it.. Pink! Mid life Crisis was my MX5, no more to say about that! But my best ever mistake was a Alfa Romeo GTV Alfetta Oh dear me, when I pulled up in that the look on my wife's face was "Its war". BYD didn't beat anything 🤦🏽. Invented nothing and has 10's of billions of government backed dollars to force way into a market. Let the US government invest that much or more money into Tesla ( IE building Teslas plants, MAKING college graduates work and live there , directing resources to to suppliers of tesla etc) and Tesla would literally put all car manufacturers out of business ( well if the CEO'S brain wasnt melting down in real time 😜). BYD is an example of Communism married to Capitalism and Tesla is an example of pure Capitalism with an Socialist affair.

This phrase is from aviation, however, it works perfectly well on British roads. If you visit countries like China, where you are driving on the right side of the road, but still need to give way to the traffic on the right, you will immediately find the problem, trust me.

    The government has been mandating expensive features, for examples : low emissions, high gas milage, loads of air bags, a back up camera, anti-whiplash head rests, pedestrian safety in front, collisions, side impact door beams, interior trunk release hands, ever more environmentaly agreeable refrigerants, daytime running lights, and 80% of the parts by value by value created in North America under USMCA. All of those requirements add up quickly. A bullnose Ford F150 was far simpler and cheaper to develop, get approved, and make than a new F150 is today.

    • @DWREV

    • @charlescoon577
      @charlescoon577 День тому

      Thank you for your comment. I like many of those features also. Unfortunately, many people cannot comfortably afford all those features in a new vehicle that meets their other needs and desires. I believe making cars easier to make and sell would aid many people. By allowing vehicles to be environmentally worse and fuel thirstier, I believe they can be made and sold far more cheaply.

    • @DWREV
      @DWREV День тому

      @@charlescoon577 You make a good point. Although, with fuel prices on the rise, cars that are thirstier might end up being unaffordable to run long term. Perhaps expanding public transport networks, making them affordable, and possibly free like in some parts of the world, and also introducing cheaper tiny EVs (with an expansion in charging networks) would be a long term solution?

    I think having an attentive driver solves a lot of low-speed pedestrian collisions. Even if the car is so quiet that pedestrians don't hear it approaching, the driver can blow the horn and/or stop the car before a collision does occur. This, however, is the real world so of course, we don't expect to have attentive drivers all the time, leaving us with roads that are still filled with all sorts of noises from cars.

China is selling a lot of cheap EVs to the Global South which has a much larger growing population than Europe and the US. China will have the economies of scale. The Provincial government owning some of these EV manufacturers do not need to make a profit. Employment and keeping the local population from moving to greener pastures is critical.
